If you have been watching TV lately, Dominos has been advertising their new Bread Bowl Pasta. It is Carbs on Carbs, so basically it is amazing. So I wanted to make my own version to see how great pasta in a bread bowl could actually be. Spoiler Alert – It was amazing. The bread bowl soaked up the sauce and the cheesy topping was amazing. I am not sure if I can ever eat pasta again in a regular bowl.
Dominos offers 5 different bread bowl pastas. I tried to recreate the Italian sausage with marinara bread bowl.
Creating the pasta bowl requires a few ingredients.
First step is to separate out 1/4 of the pizza dough and let it rise. While the dough is rising boil water and cook the pasta al dente. Then form the dough ball to create a bowl. Start with the dough ball and push down the center of the dough ball and slowly stretching the dough. Leave a 3/4 inch to 1 inch edge. – Update – I used sourdough but you can use any pizza dought that you have. You can use the pilsbury (I dont recommend it but it works), most supermarkets sell pizza dough ready to go, or frozen bread dough. It is usually in the deli section or the freezer section. You can also go to any pizzeria and they will sell you dough. It is usually cheap too. Or make a basic pizza dough.
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Next saute the sausage. Once the sausage is cooked remove it from the heat and slice it so that it can be incorporated into the sauce. Toss the pasta with 1/2 to 1 cup of marinara and the sausage. Brush the edge of the pizza crust with the butter. Then ladle marinara sauce into the middle of the bread bowl. Then ladle the pasta mixture into the center of the bowl. Make sure that pile the pasta so that it is heaping over the edges. The pasta will appear to be too high, but the bowl will bake up around the edge of the pasta.
Then cover the top of the pasta with with the mozzarella cheese.
Place the pasta bowl on a preheated pizza stone in the center of the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes. If you don’t have a pizza stone place the pasta bowl on a cookie sheet and place the cookie sheet in the preheated oven. Since the pan will be room temperature you may have to add 2-3 minutes to the baking time.
Below are a few shots of the finished product. The pasta and bread bowl are amazing. This was one of the best tasting things that I have ever made.
I hope you get a chance to try to make your own bread bowl pastas, they are delicious.

AMAZING - this looks just like the original - nice job!
That looks so good, I'm going to bookmark it!
Bond,
Well it tastes great with beer on the side. That is how I enjoyed it. I bet it would be amazing with some crispy bacon on it. Next time around I will add bacon.
You know, when Dominos commercials come on, I totally blank out...not paying any attention, so I have not seen this new product from them.
This is very interesting. I just may have to give it a go!
Wait...when do I add the beer and bacon?
haha, that's awesome! you did a great job!
This tutorial was fantastic!!!! I followed your directions and it came out perfect!!!!! I substituted thawed frozen meatballs that I cut up instead of the sausage. Thanks so much for sharing!
I am glad that the bread bowl pasta came out perfect. Frozen meatballs are a great addition. It is always nice to hear tips that can make cooking faster. I am going to try to make one post a week dedicated to quick and easy cooking.
I tried the Domino's pasta bowl and it was fantastic, now after seeing your post on the web, I can recreate it in my own home and enjoy making it any way I want!
Thank you!
I cook baked Zita. As a matter of fact cooked it today. Bought 3 loaves of frozen bread dough. Cut one loaf into 1/3, let it rise, then shaped it into bowls. Put the Zita in the middle and baked for about 25-30 minutes. My husband and I loved it.
Dumb question...is the pasta/marinara already cooked/hot before put in the bowl?
The pasta and sausage are cooked. I tossed everything in the marinara before adding it to the bread bowl. The marinara was not cooked in the photos, however the recipe will work great if you use hot marinara too. I have done it both ways.
Why would anyone with any tastebuds try to recreate any product mass produced by (YUK) Dominoes? If you are creating dishes based on Dominoes, then STOP! You aren't creating food, you are creating Soylent Green!
