Chicken Fried Bacon

Share

I love fried food.  I also love bacon.  So the combination of fried and bacon intrigued me.  So today I created a recipe for chicken fried bacon with gravy.  Yep, it wasn’t unhealthy enough.

Chicken fried bacon was probably the most glorious thing that I have ever eaten.

Frying the Bacon

I tried to make these with raw bacon and with partially cooked bacon.  I found that partially cooked bacon worked the best.  Since I wanted the bacon perfectly flat I used the microwave to partially cook the bacon. Place 4-6 strips of bacon on a paper towel lined plate.  Then top with a nother piece of paper towel.  Place in the microwave and cook on high for 3 minutes, remove and let cool.

Next dredge the cooled bacon in seasoned flour.

Then dredge it in an egg wash.  To make the egg wash, mix two eggs with a 1/4 cup cream and a couple dashes of hot sauce.

Now dredge the egg covered bacon in crushed saltine crackers.

Place into a medium/high heat heavy bottom pan that is coated with vegetable oil.

Fry for about 2-4 minutes on each side.  Cook until the bacon is golden brown on each side. Remove from the pan and let drain on a paper towel.

Making the Gravy

To make the gravy melt 4tbs of butter in a pan and whisk in 3tbs of flour.  Cook until the flour turns slighly brown.

Then add 1cup of chicken broth, 1/2 cup of cream, 1 tbs of worcestershire, a dash of hot sauce and salt and pepper.

Heat until boiling and then reduce.  Stirring frequently.  Once it starts to thicken, remove from the heat and let sit for a couple of minutes.

Serve the chicken fried bacon with the gravy for a heart stopping meal that is amazing.

The Perfect Meal
Cooked golden brown until the bacon is crispy and delicious

This was the greatest appetizer/meal that I have ever had.  The chicken fried bacon with the gravy is unbelievably good.

There is nothing like dipping fried fat into more fat.

    • Actually I took a low dose of aspirin before eating it so that my blood would be thinner. I should have had the paramedics there. Haha...

  • My eye lit up and my taste buds did a little jig!

Put more pork on my fork. Oh I am now following you on Twitter!!!

  • Oh my God. I just gained 500 pounds looking at this. If fried bacon wasn't enough, you had to go and make a gravy to dip it in. Looks absolutely wonderful.

  • No offence but that looks gross. I'm not a vegan or anything but there is a line and it was crossed by you quite some time ago. It seems that you just like fat for fat's sake.

  • wow. that is most intense; it looks good, crazy good-crazy because just looking at it makes my heart cringe in fear of having a myocardial infarction, and good because i bet it is yummy :P

    • Thanks for all of the comments. I will be honest. I thought it was overkill when I made it too. It was so tasty, but so bad for you too. It is definitely a once a year recipe.

  • That looks delicious - I love bacon and I love chicken fried anything. I can't believe I have never seen this before.

    • I know I didn't create the chicken fried bacon. It is just my take on it. After a few readers requested it, I figured I would give it a go.
