Every Friday I pick the best culinary events in the DC area for my readers to enjoy. This weekend there are some great events to attend in and around the DC metro area.
District will reopen the historic Eastern Market at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday June 26 followed by a community celebration on Saturday June 27. The two events will mark the completion of the market’s renovation and recovery from fire damage caused in April 2007. With over 175 exhibitors on the weekend this is going to be one heck of a celebration. Eastern Market is located at 306 7th Street, SE. 1 1/2 Blocks North of Eastern Market Metro on 7th Street.

This event is located downtown DC right on pennsylvania avenue. The barbecue battle is DC’s largest food and music festival. Last year there were huge lines and none of the barbecue is free. Remember to bring cash. All of the big names in barbecue show up for this event in the Nation’s Capital. Make sure to look for the guys from PorkBarrelBBQ.
The battle is open from 11am-9pm on Saturday and 11am-7:30pm on Sunday.
Tickets are $10 and are available here.
This Celebration of American Beer features over 50 of America’s best breweries, a variety of food to complement the craft beers and great local and regional bands to entertain you. Hours are 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM on Saturday and 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM on Sunday. Tickets are $20 if purchased in advance, and $25 at the gate.

If you didn’t go last week, Former “Top Chef” Spike Mendelsohn hosts this summer-long pool party, with burgers, drinks and swimming. Located at Best Western Capitol Skyline Hotel, 10 I St SW, Washington, DC. Entry is $10 and includes a Spike Burger.
Check out a little video that was made at the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ festival last weekend. It was made by Ben and Grant, whom I met while I was drinking beer and talking shop with the guys over at Pork Barrel BBQ.
