Bourbon Apple Dumplings

Elegant bourbon apple dumplings with cinnamon sugar apples wrapped in pastry and served with bourbon syrup. Perfect dinner party dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 pie dough store-bought or homemade
  • 3 tart apples Granny Smith recommended
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2-3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Brown sugar for filling

Instructions

  • Make pie dough or use store-bought.
  • Roll out dough into a long rectangle roughly 7-8 inches wide and 20-24 inches long.
  • Cut dough into 3 equal size squares.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Peel and core 3 tart apples.
  • Mix 1/4 cup sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl.
  • Roll each peeled and cored apple in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Place cinnamon-sugar coated apple in the center of one pastry square.
  • Spoon brown sugar into the apple core.
  • Place butter on the brown sugar and sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon.
  • Fold up corners of pastry square and seal around the apple.
  • Place finished dumplings into a greased 9x9 baking pan.
  • Slowly pour bourbon syrup over the dumplings.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes at 375 degrees until dumplings are golden brown.
  • Serve warm with ice cream and bourbon syrup drizzled over top.

Notes

For the bourbon syrup, combine 1.5 cups water, 0.5 cup bourbon, 0.75 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1/4 teaspoon mace, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. Bring to boil and cook for 2 minutes. Bourbon and apples pair beautifully in this elegant dessert.
