Bloody Mary

It is football season and one of my many traditions is to start the day off with a bloody mary. As a former bartender I have had many bloody mary’s in my day. Most of them were horrible. It was almost as if they just added tomato juice to vodka. After quizzing many bartenders on their secrets and trying them out for myself I have found a great recipe for the perfect bloody mary.

I always serve my bloody mary’s with a zesty dill pickle spear.

Bloody Mary

  • 16oz glass
  • 3oz vodka
  • 1 tbs Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 dashes hot sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp horseradish
  • 1/2 tsp celery salt
  • 6-8oz tomato juice

The first step is to fill the glass with ice and then add the vodka.  3oz is for a balanced drink, but if you like yours strong then add more.

Add as much vodka as you like

Next add the Worcestershire sauce.

Add the worcestershire sauce, you want to add enough to make a nice brown color.

Next add the horseradish.  Make sure to stir the mixture after adding the horseradish to make sure that it is dispersed throughout the glass.  Otherwise it will pile on the bottom and your first two sips will be plenty horsey.

The horseradish will give your bloody a nice zing.

Finally top the glass off with tomato juice.  Make sure to leave yourself about a half of inch or else your garnish will not fit in the glass.

Stir thoroughly and garnish with a zesty pickle.

Stir or shake and then garnish with a pickle or celery.

Please enjoy responsibly.

    Lime Pie – The Drink

I was searching through this months Food and Wine and discovered a little drink that looked amazing.  The drink was originally called Ramoncita Lopez Special, the name was too long.  As a bartender, anything with more than two words in the name is overkill.  Further, the drink tastes like a key lime pie.  No shit,…

    Cowboy Baked Beans

As you can see I am prepping this week for barbecue.  Yesterday was some awesome potato salad.  Today we are making cowboy baked beans.  I wanted to make beans from scratch.  Just a word of warning.  Making beans from scratch takes longer than barbecueing a whole hog.  The end result, was totally worth it.  And…

    1. Great idea. Bloody Mary mopped BBQ. Plus, if you have any extra you can drink the mop. Wonder how this would taste mopped on the smoked breakfast sausage? Could be the perfect brunch item.
