Chicken Fried Bacon

I love fried food.  I also love bacon.  So the combination of fried and bacon intrigued me.  So today I created a recipe for chicken fried bacon with gravy.  Yep, it wasn’t unhealthy enough.

Chicken fried bacon was probably the most glorious thing that I have ever eaten.

Frying the Bacon

I tried to make these with raw bacon and with partially cooked bacon.  I found that partially cooked bacon worked the best.  Since I wanted the bacon perfectly flat I used the microwave to partially cook the bacon. Place 4-6 strips of bacon on a paper towel lined plate.  Then top with a nother piece of paper towel.  Place in the microwave and cook on high for 3 minutes, remove and let cool.

Uncooked Partially Cooked

Next dredge the cooled bacon in seasoned flour.

Dredge in seasoned flour

Then dredge it in an egg wash.  To make the egg wash, mix two eggs with a 1/4 cup cream and a couple dashes of hot sauce.

soak in egg wash

Now dredge the egg covered bacon in crushed saltine crackers.

Saltines

Place into a medium/high heat heavy bottom pan that is coated with vegetable oil.

Fry Up

Fry for about 2-4 minutes on each side.  Cook until the bacon is golden brown on each side. Remove from the pan and let drain on a paper towel.

Making the Gravy

To make the gravy melt 4tbs of butter in a pan and whisk in 3tbs of flour.  Cook until the flour turns slighly brown.

Making a Rue

Then add 1cup of chicken broth, 1/2 cup of cream, 1 tbs of worcestershire, a dash of hot sauce and salt and pepper.

Add remaining ingredients

Heat until boiling and then reduce.  Stirring frequently.  Once it starts to thicken, remove from the heat and let sit for a couple of minutes.

Boil and then let thicken

Serve the chicken fried bacon with the gravy for a heart stopping meal that is amazing.

    1. Actually I took a low dose of aspirin before eating it so that my blood would be thinner. I should have had the paramedics there. Haha…

  1. Oh my God. I just gained 500 pounds looking at this. If fried bacon wasn't enough, you had to go and make a gravy to dip it in. Looks absolutely wonderful.

  2. No offence but that looks gross. I'm not a vegan or anything but there is a line and it was crossed by you quite some time ago. It seems that you just like fat for fat's sake.

  3. wow. that is most intense; it looks good, crazy good-crazy because just looking at it makes my heart cringe in fear of having a myocardial infarction, and good because i bet it is yummy 😛

    1. Thanks for all of the comments. I will be honest. I thought it was overkill when I made it too. It was so tasty, but so bad for you too. It is definitely a once a year recipe.

    1. I know I didn't create the chicken fried bacon. It is just my take on it. After a few readers requested it, I figured I would give it a go.

  4. So what if you have a digital camera and can over load this post with too many pictures that don’t add to understanding how to make the recipe? Less is more.

  5. Wow! I love bacon. Even better is more bacon and what you’ve done here looks immoral and wonderful!!!! I hope they never make bacon illegal or keep it behind the counter at the pharmacy.

  6. Looks fantastic but there's nothing unhealthy about this recipe other than the saltine crackers and vegetable oil.

Also, don't listen to Jojo, she's a serial food-photo hater. She's posted all over criticizing the use of photos on food blogs. She may just be jealous of your camera. Less is not more. More is more.

    1. Why thank you Caveman Sam. I was thinking about making the chicken fried bacon a little healthier by switching the vegetable oil to coconut oil and getting rid of the saltines altogether. But heck, everyone needs a little fat in their diet. Haha.

  7. From a European perseptive: I understand why diabetes type 2 is such a problem in your country… sorry..

  8. Hi I loved your article. I feel that it's important when discussing diabetes to at least point out natural remedies that have been proven to be efficient in controlling high blood glucose. Various natural herbs can be including in a diabetics regimen that can help preserve a wholesome sugar level.

    1. Doug,

Chicken frying in the US is a type of cooking where you cook a meat in the style of fried chicken. There is chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak and the recipe above is for chicken fried bacon. Basically it is breaded and deep fried bacon served with a gravy dipping sauce. Not the healthiest thing in the world, but super tasty…..
