The Margarita

It has been extremely hot in DC.  Yesterday it was 92 in my backyard.  92 in April, you have to be kidding me.  So I wanted to make yet another frozen drink.  I had to choose based on the liquor I had on hand.  Luckily, I had plenty of tequila.  With tequila comes margaritas.

Margarita

I tried to get a photo of the whole glass, but it is not the best.  The dollar store by my house sells these cactus margarita glasses for you guessed it, $1.  I had to pick up a couple as they were one heck of a find.

Margarita

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 1/4 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz triple sec
  • 3 oz sour mix
  • 1 cup of ice

Mix all of the ingredients in a shaker or place all of the ingredients in a blender.  Works either way.  Blend or shake and then pour into a cactus glass.  Well that last part is optional.  You should use whatever glass you have available.

Bartender Tip of the Day

Salting a glass

They sell fancy schmancy salting apparatuses that have a round sponge and a ring of salt.  They are handy, but the best way to salt a glass is to use a wedge of lime.  Circle the rim of the glass with the wedge and then dip the glass onto a plate coated with salt.  This will give you the perfect rimmed glass.  The same works for sugar.  Also note that if your drink is lemon based use a lemon wedge and if your drink is orange based use an orange.  The extra hint of flavor will add to your drinks.

    1. James – I wish it were only in the upper 70's. Looks like summer is starting a little early here in DC.
