Moving on Up!

The Relocation

So I have been a little absent on the website lately, sorry about that.  I have been in transition lately.  Dana and I just purchased our first house together and we have been moving in.  It is a time consuming process.  However, I wanted to share with you the new base for SavoryReviews.com.  We just recently moved from Washington, DC to Richmond, VA. It is a really nice Goldilocks town.  Not too big, not too small, it is just right!

New House

Here is the new house from the front.  I loved it for the giant garage.  I always need a place to put my extra barbecue tools.

New Kitchen

I was in love with the Kitchen from the first time that I saw it.  All new stainless steel Kenmore appliances.  The Microwave is Kenmore Elite.  It microwaves, bakes, grills and further includes a convection oven.  Sounds cool, but it has already broke down.  I think it was afraid of the new owners.  I heard a rumor that the appliances were scared that they would be overworked since the new owners loved to cook.

All about wine

Here is a view from another angle.  I love the built in wine rack.  I think that will be the most used part of the kitchen.

Tainted Garden

The backyard is a really nice size.  Not too big.  I hate to mow.  The previous owners planted a garden with tomatoes, peppers and herbs.  I thought it sounded awesome, till I realized that Tucker equates garden to fire hydrant.  Yep, I was picking fresh tomatoes when Tucker came up and peed all over the basil.  I immediately went to the store and bought some.  I guess I will have to find a way to protect the garden next year.

Overall this is going to be a great house for the family.  Dana and I are really excited to settle in and start cooking.  I have already started to compile some recipes and will be posting them soon.

While on vacation in the Caribbean I was bombarded with Rum Punch.  The go to drink for every restaurant, day cruise, and beach waiter was Rum Punch.  I had a few of them over the course of my honeymoon and I noticed that none of them tasted the same.  I asked the bartender at my…

    BLT Salad

Who doesn’t love a nice Bacon, Lettuce and grilled tomato sandwich.  So I figured who wouldn’t love it in salad form.  With charred bread croutons and fire roasted tomatoes, this was a salad for men and women alike.  Heck, the main ingredient is bacon.  Who could not love this salad.  After making it, I declare…

  • Ultimate Smores

I have been doing a series of posts about my buddy Jeff’s barbecue. We made a full day out of grilling and sipping on Coronas. To end the night we made the ultimate smores. The recipe was developed by Jeff’s sister “Spud”. While not too far off from the original, it was tweaked enough to…

    Three Cheese Manicotti

My wife Dana is from New York City! When we visit NYC, we like to purchase food items to bring back Virginia.  One of those food items is fresh pasta.  Our favorite is Manicotti.  You just can’t beat the flavor of the pasta, from the pasta stores in New York.  Since we haven’t been to NY…

    Mom’s Enchiladas

Over the holiday season Dana and I went to visit my family in Michigan.  While there, my Mom made us some enchiladas.  These were a tad bit different from my normal enchiladas.  They were meaty and delicious.  I had to have the recipe.  So I asked my Mom for it and she happily gave it…

    Butt in a Bag

A couple of weeks ago I reviewed a cookbook by Ardie Davis on barbecuing. In the book he had a recipe for butt in a bag. Due to the name alone I had to make it. Basically you smoke a pork butt like normal, but halfway through you place it in a paper bag. The…
