Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

One of my favorite breakfast meals is biscuits and sausage gravy. I just love tender biscuits covered in thick and creamy sausage gravy. I prefer a spicy sausage in mine, but with the kids eating my food these days, I have to opt for mild. Sad but they will grow up soon.  Then I can get back to the spicy stuff.  The great thing about this recipe, is that it works with any type of sausage that you enjoy!

Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

For the biscuits, you can use fresh, frozen, boxed or refrigerated.  I prefer to make my own.  Here is my go to recipe.

Homemade Biscuits

Buttermilk Biscuits

They are quick and delicious!

Once you have your biscuits prepared, you will need a large skillet.  In the skillet over medium/high heat you will want to add your favorite breakfast sausage.  I used a 1lb log of mild breakfast sausage.

Breakfast Sausage

Next you will want to break it up and brown it.  Very similar to making chopped meat.

Brown the sausage

Once the sausage is browned you will want to add 1/3rd cup of flour.  Mix in and cook for 1 minute.

Add the flour

Once the flour is cooked, add three cups of milk.  Stir.

Add the milk

Add the seasonings, stir and bring to a boil.

Add the seasoned salt and pepper

Once it starts to boil, reduce the heat and simmer until the sauce is the consistency that you desire.  I like a smooth but thick gravy.  I let mine simmer for 5 minutes after the boil.

Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Serve the gravy over the freshly baked biscuits.
