Krispy Kreme breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese on glazed doughnut bun

Excess at its best – The Krispy Kreme Breakfast Sandwich

You guys always ask me to make the craziest foods.  I am not one to let anyone down.  Today I took bacon to a new level.  I sandwiched it between a Krispy Kreme doughnut.  After creating the monster I was a little scared to eat it.  I built up some courage and took a bite.  It was awesome!!!  It created the perfect sweet and savory bite.  Despite the calories, I would totally eat one of these every morning.  However, for the sake of my stomach, I will limit these to a once a year occasion.

Yep that is a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich between a Krispy Kreme doughnut bun.

The Krispy Kreme Breakfast Sandwich

To start you need a Krispy Kreme Doughnut.  I used a fresh off the line doughnut and it was a little too soft to cut.  I would recommend using one that has completely cooled.  Cut the doughnut in half.

Next fry up some bacon.  I used the microwave as I was in a hurry.  Place the two strips of bacon on a couple layers of paper towel that are arranged on a microwave safe plate.  Cover the bacon with another paper towel and place in the microwave on high for 4 minutes.  It comes out perfect every time.  Microwaves vary so you may have to decrease or increase the time by 30 seconds.

Bacon, perfectly crispy

Next fry up an egg.  I like a hard yolk in my breakfast sandwiches.  Maybe it is because the golden arches as a kid, not sure.  But I usually break the egg to get a nice solid egg platform.  Cook the egg and then fold it into a square.  Place the bacon on top and then layer on the cheese.  To melt the cheese perfectly, put a couple of drops of water in the pan and then cover.  The steam will melt the cheese perfectly.

Place the egg on top of the doughnut half.

Place on the bottom half of the doughnut

Top with the other half of the doughnut and enjoy.

Don't worry about the calories.

Enjoy!!

Krispy Kreme Breakfast Sandwich

The ultimate indulgent breakfast sandwich—crispy bacon, fried egg, and melted cheese served between two halves of a glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut. Sweet and savory perfection with a perfect bite.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings: 1 Sandwich
Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 Krispy Kreme doughnut
  • 2 slices bacon
  • 1 egg
  • 1 slice cheese of your choice American, cheddar, or Swiss recommended
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • 1 Frying Pan
  • 1 Sharp Knife

Method

  1. Prepare the Doughnut — Take a completely cooled Krispy Kreme doughnut. (Fresh, warm doughnuts are too soft to cut cleanly.) Carefully cut the doughnut in half horizontally to create your sandwich bun.
  2. Cook the Bacon — Place two strips of bacon on paper towels on a microwave-safe plate. Cover with another paper towel and microwave on high for 4 minutes. Perfectly crispy every time. (Note: Adjust time by 30 seconds if needed for your microwave.)
  3. Fry the Egg — Fry one egg in a skillet. Break the yolk to create a solid egg platform. Cook until firm (hard yolk is recommended for breakfast sandwiches).
  4. Fold Egg and Add Toppings — Fold the cooked egg into a square shape. Place the crispy bacon on top, then layer the cheese slice on top of the bacon.
  5. Melt the Cheese — Add a couple of drops of water to the pan and cover it. The steam will melt the cheese perfectly while keeping the egg warm.
  6. Assemble the Sandwich — Place the egg, bacon, and cheese mixture on the bottom half of the doughnut.
  7. Top and Serve — Top with the other half of the doughnut. Enjoy immediately while warm. Don’t worry about the calories—this is a once-in-a-while indulgence!

Notes

This is the ultimate sweet and savory combination. Use completely cooled doughnuts for easy cutting. The microwave method for bacon is foolproof and quick. The steam method for melting cheese keeps everything at the perfect temperature. Despite the high calories, this sandwich is worth the indulgence. Enjoy it as an occasional treat. — Rex

  1. OMG! One would say it is a heart attack waiting to happen. I would try it, I am not scared of the calories or the fat. The only concern I would have is WHAT kind of doughnut we use. If one uses one that is too sweet, then it would ruin everything.

    1. Jason – The Krispy Kreme Doughnut is probably the sweetest doughnut I have ever had. It did not over power the sandwich at all. That could be because the doughnut was rather small compared to the sandwich I created. The sweetness actually worked well with the bacon and eggs. Kind of creepy. The Krispy Kreme doughnut is a glazed yeast doughnut. Not sure how it would work with a cake doughnut. I think any glazed yeast doughnut would work.
