The Insomniac Spiked Milkshake

Every week  I try to feature an amazing cocktail.  This week includes one of the best creations I have ever made.  This cocktail started yesterday when I featured cold brew coffee on my blog.  Cold brew coffee is brewed slowly and creates a nice smooth bitter-less coffee concentrate.  Therefore, I wanted to create a cocktail that utilized this amazing coffee concentrate.  Then I decided that it would make an amazing milk shake.  One thing led to another and the idea that alcohol would be amazing in a milkshake was born.  Crazy how ideas come together.

I also drizzled caramel around the glass before filling it with the milk shake.  The golden caramel goes great with the Kahlua and Bailey’s.

The Insomniac Spiked Milkshake

  • 1 1/2 oz Kahlua
  • 1 1/2 oz Bailey’s
  • 3 oz cold brew coffee
  • 2 1/4 cups vanilla ice cream
  • caramel for drizzling

Add all of the ingredients except the caramel to a blender and blend.  Start with 1 cup of ice cream, if it is not thick enough add another 1/2 cup.

Drizzle the caramel onto the sides of a large cup and then pour the milkshake into the cup.  If desired top with some whipped cream.

This recipe makes a large milkshake, but honestly you will not care.  It will prevent you from having to make a couple small milkshakes.  I could have had about 3 more of these, but unfortunately I ran out of cold brewed coffee.  Definitely going to make a large batch next week.

Bartender Tip of the Day

When making ice cream drinks the perfect ratio is 3:1.  Three parts ice cream to one part liquid.  In the case of the milkshake above, we are using 2 1/4 cups (~ 18 oz) of ice cream for 6 oz of liquid.  The 3:1 ratio will always give you the perfect ice cream drink.  Use it for regular milkshakes, spiked milkshakes or even daiquiris made with ice cream instead of ice.
