Root Bourbon Float

Happy Veterans Day!!!  Federal Holiday and nobody seems to be working here in DC.  So it is a good thing that it happened to fall on a Wednesday.  Yep, Cocktail Wednesday.  The other day I went to the store and they had real Root Beer on sale.  Not that caramel colored stuff that we know and love.  Real brewed root beer.  So I picked some up.  After tasting it I went through my bar and found that Bourbon worked magically with it.  Then one thing led to another and I ended up grabbing some vanilla ice cream and the Root Bourbon Float was born.

The root beer reacts with the ice cream and creates a delicious foam.

Root Bourbon Float

  • 8-12 oz, Root Beer – Any works, but natural root beer has a flavor that the big boys can’t compete with.
  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 1/2 – 1 cup vanilla ice cream

Simple but tasty recipe.  Fill a large glass with ice cream.  I like vanilla ice cream with the vanilla beans in it.  Personal choice but any vanilla will do.

Next add 2-4 ounces of bourbon.  Depends if you have the day off or not.

Fill with your favorite bourbon

Finally top off with your favorite root beer.

Sip back and cheers your favorite veteran.  I would like to take this opportunity to cheers all of the veterans out there that are currently and/or have served to protect this country.  Thank you and Cheers!!!
