Life Size Cheese Carving of Abraham Lincoln – Friday (July 3rd)
Nothing says independance day like watching a guy carve abraham lincoln out of a 1000 lb block of Wisconsin Cheddar.   Cheez-it is sponsoring this event. It is three hours only. Due to the tempermental nature of the material the carving will be shown from 11am to 2pm on the 3rd at 2215 Constitution Ave. Washington, DC . The word on the street is that Cheez-it will be handing out free crackers to those that show up.
Smithsonian Folk Life Festival – Wednesday thru Sunday (July 1-5)
Every year the smithsonian takes over the National Mall and holds their Folk Life Festival. The Festival is held outdoors on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between the Smithsonian museums. There is no admission charge. It is a giant festival showcasing the cultures and food from nations around the world. This festival has the best food. They have everything from Native American cuisine to African cuisine to Haitian cuisine. This festival features music, live dance performances and great food.
Fireworks- Saturday (July 4th)
There are fireworks celebrations all over the DC metro area. Actually there are so many that I could not list them all on one page. So instead I urge you to find the closest one to you and watch them. If you do get a chance to go into the city to watch the DC fireworks it is worth it. I would recommend watching them from accross the Potomac in VA. The best spots are on the hill by the Iwo Jima Memorial in Rosslyn or just outside of the Arlington Cemetary Metro station by Memorial Bridge. There is bike path that runs along the river and makes a perfect spot to watch the fireworks. Also, last year the Cemetary Metro Station was open after the fireworks.
Spike’d Sundays – Sunday (July 5th)
If you didn’t go last week, Former “Top Chef” Spike Mendelsohn hosts this summer-long pool party, with burgers, drinks and swimming. Located at Best Western Capitol Skyline Hotel,  10 I St SW,  Washington, DC. Entry is $10 and includes a Spike Burger.
Recap from the National Capital Barbecue Battle
Last week I posted a video from Ben and Grant of them at the Beer, Bourbon and BBQ festival. I received a lot of good responses from it. This week Ben and Grant are doing a recap of last weeks National Capital Barbecue Battle. I was there but didn’t see them. I also missed the lady dancing with a box on her head. Click the video to see.
