Time to make reservations
This is the end of DC Restaurant Week you should make your reservations now. DC Restaurant Week is August 24th-30th. Restaurant Week includes a 3-course prix-fixe menu for a discounted price. This year’s prices are $20.09 Lunches & $35.09 Dinners.
Here are my tips
- Pick a restaurant that has the full menu for restaurant week
- Stay away from the Steak Houses – They are usually lame
- If the restaurant has a Restaurant Week menu look at it on their website before reserving a spot.
- Try a new restaurant – Restaurant Week gives you the opportunity to try new and interesting cuisines.
- Have fun! – Order a glass of wine with dinner.

Maryland State Fair-Saturday to Saturday (August 28 – September 7)
In case you thought you missed your chance to go to the fair, there is one more. The Maryland State Fair is the latest in the great traditional of fairs. Food, rides and the lovely aroma of livestock. Friday you can watch the Miss Maryland Agricultural Contest at 7:30PM. Saturday is filled with 4H competitions. Everything from Swine Showmanship to the Livestock sale at 7:30. This is your chance to buy a whole cow. Imagine all of that meat. My smoker is drooling at the prospect. On Sunday is the GHIRARDELLI Chocolate Championship at 2PM. So much to see.
Hours: Friday Noon to 10PM and Saturday-Sunday 10 am to 10pm

Columbia Heights Day Festival – Saturday (August 29)
Celebrate the wonder that is Columbia Heights. There will be Live Bands All Day, Dance Performances, Children’s Games & Rides, Petting Zoo, Dog Show, Exhibitions & Contests, Artists, Local Businesses and Community Organizations. The food vendors include CommonWealth Gastropub, Pete’s Apizza and Rita’s Waterice.
Location – Harriet Tubman Elementary School located at 11th and Kenyon Streets, NW
Hours of Operation – 10am till the end of the last show. The last show starts at 5:30.

Afternoon Tea at the Outlands Plantation – Sunday (August 30)
Sunday Tea is a great tradition. Tea and snacks. The menu includes Assorted delicate tea sandwiches, Delicious sweets, Scones with preserves & cream, OATLANDS Afternoon Tea Blend. Call for Reservations (703) 777-3174 (weekdays).

Spike’d Sundays – Sunday (August 16)
Former “Top Chef” Spike Mendelsohn hosts this summer-long pool party, with burgers, drinks and swimming.
Spike’s Twitter feed for this week further said that they will be showing an outdoor movie by the pool
A little birdy told me that if you want to run into the DC cast of the real world, this is the place to go. They show up almost every week.
Time: Noon-10pm
Located at Best Western Capitol Skyline Hotel, 10 I St SW, Washington, DC. Entry is $10 and includes a Spike Burger.
