What to do this weekend in DC – (September 18-20)

Every Friday I pick the best culinary events in the DC area for my readers to enjoy. This weekend there are some great events to attend in and around the DC metro area from a chocolate tasting at the Botanic Gardens to a Wine Festival in Northern Virginia.

Chocolate: A Consumer’s Guide & Tasting – Friday (Sept. 18)

Come learn how to decipher chocolate labels and enhance your enjoyment of this popular treat.   We’ll explore the healthy side of chocolate and discuss how chocolate gets its flavor.  Learn about terminology like “chocolate liquor” and “cocoa mass” while tasting a variety of chocolates ranging from classic milk chocolate to single-origin 70 percent dark chocolate.

Time: 1:00-2:30 – Registration Required

Admission free for Members or $5 for non-members

Anne Arundel County Fair – Friday to Sunday (Sept. 18-20)

There’s a variety of ENTERTAINMENT and ATTRACTIONS available.  Check out the pie eating contest on Saturday @ 3:30PM.  Registration starts at 2:30.  $0.50 Registration Fee.  Also check out the Watermelon eating contest on Sunday @ 2:00PM.  Registration is $1 and starts at 1:45PM.

Hours: 

Friday 18th 4:00pm -11:00pm, Saturday 19th 9:00am-11:00pm, Sunday 20th 9:00am-8:00pm

Admission: $5 and All you can ride passes are $20.

Frederick County Fair – Friday to Sunday (Sept. 18-20)

I love fair food.  Coming from the midwest you get to have pretty much anything that your heart desires on a stick.  Bacon, hot dogs, mac n cheese and even cheesecake. I have never been to this fair but I am sure that they will have corn dogs and funnel cakes. Make sure to check out the 4-H cake auction on Sunday.

 Admission: Free on Friday after 5PM and $7 on Saturday and Sunday

H Street Festival – Saturday (Sept. 19)

Food, Art, Music and Urban Sports.  Should be a great day to go and walk around.

Location – 1000-1300 blocks of H street NE

Virginia Wine Festival – Saturday – Sunday (Sept.  19-20)

Come, and experience the Virginia Wine Festival, Virginia’s premier and longest running wine festival. That’s right folks – this is the ORIGINAL wine festival-the one that started them all. This 34 year Grand Commonwealth Tradition, held in the beautiful outdoor setting of Bull Run Regional Park, will tempt your palette with over 300 available tastings from over 50 of our regions finest wineries and most renowned viticultors.

Admission – $30

Hours of Operation – 11AM to 6PM
