What to do this weekend in DC – (September 25-27)

Every Friday I pick the best culinary events in the DC area for my readers to enjoy. This weekend there are some great events to attend in and around the DC metro area from Octoberfest to a Buffalo Wing showdown in Georgetown.

Frederick County Fair – Friday to Sunday (Sept. 25-26)

I love fair food. Coming from the midwest you get to have pretty much anything that your heart desires on a stick. Bacon, hot dogs, mac n cheese and even cheesecake. I have never been to this fair but I am sure that they will have corn dogs and funnel cakes.

Admission: $7

Location: 797 East Patrick Street PO Box 604 Frederick, MD 21705

Barrack’s Row Oktoberfest – Saturday (Sept. 26)

Historic Barracks Row’s 6th Annual Oktoberfest will roll out the barrels on Saturday, September 26, 2009 on bustling 8th Street SE, Capitol Hill. This year the event will feature hourly tours of the Home of the Commandants and a performance by the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon! Opening our local football season, the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders will be cheering us to the Super Bowl!

The local restaurants will host beer gardens, German bands will play, a large petting zoo is free for kids and guys of all ages will have cars to admire – including a 1960’s Jaguar and Austin Healey. Plus, green-in-every-way Ecruzers (stretch electric carts – for quick trips to Nat’s stadium) will be on display! It all starts at 11am! Seventy five booths of all description – arts and crafts, spring bulbs, pretzels and strudel – will be there to tempt, inform or amuse you… and maybe even get you started on that Christmas list.

While Oktoberfest is underway, the Military chefs will be up the street stirring the pot. Once again the Military Culinary Competition pits Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air force and Coast Guard against each other for bragging rights as to who has the Top Chef – and maybe, by extension, the best chow.

Location – 8th Street, SE between G & Eye Streets

Hours of Operation – 11AM till 5PM

There will be lots of the best International Beers and Wines and lots of Oompah bands to enjoy your favorite German drinking songs. You can also enjoy the sausages, potato cakes, sour beef, schnitzel and other great German classics! Is that a snitzengruben I smell?!?!?!?!?
