What to do this weekend in DC – (October 16-18)

Every week I pick out the best culinary and social events happening on the weekends in the DC area.  I choose the fun, exciting and enlightening events.  This week is no different.  You can visit the White House Garden, continue celebrating Oktoberfest and have a nice weekend out at Mount Vernon.

White House Garden Tours

Saturday-Sunday (October 17-18)

This weekend they are opening up the White House gardens for visitors to see.  The tour includes all of the Gardens except for the new Kitchen Garden.  Although the Kitchen Garden will be able to be seen from a distance.  Tickets are first come first serve each morning starting at 8AM.  Remember tickets are one per person each person has to be present to pick up tickets.  Tickets are available in the Ellipse Pavilion on 15th and E.

Tours are available on Saturday, October 17, 2009, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and  Sunday, October 18, 2009, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Fall Harvest Family Days at Mount Vernon

Saturday-Sunday (October 17-18)

The four-acre George Washington: Pioneer Farmer site celebrates the harvest season with FREE horse-drawn wagon rides, a straw bale maze, an opportunity to meet “General Washington,” and the chance to learn how to dance 18th-century-style! Plus outdoor cooking demonstrations and concessions.

Open 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Oktoberfest at the Doener Bistro

Friday-Sunday (October 16-18)

Doener Bistro invites the public to it’s second annual Oktoberfest celebration, featuring live music, food and activities. Special offerings include beersteins, weisswurst, pretzels, Bavarian meat loaf, brezel and more…  Don’t forget about the Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfest Bier on tap.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sunday
