by Due to the extreme temperatures that we had in the first week of April, the cherry blossoms are almost gone. In the event that you missed them, I took a picture for you.
They were millions of them last week. Unfortunately, there are not many left. This leads me into the first event of the weekend.
National Cherry Blossom Parade
The 2010 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade® on Saturday, April 10 from 10am – noon, rain or shine. The Parade runs along Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Streets, NW, and will be featured in a live simulcast on ABC 7/ WJLA-TV and NewsChannel 8. Giant colorful balloons, marching bands, and performers will burst down Constitution Avenue in an energy-filled spectacle of music and showmanship seen only once a year during the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
Bands, floats, celebrities and so much more! Hosts for the Parade are ABC 7 and NewsChannel 8 anchors Doug McKelway, Alison Starling and Natasha Barrett. 97.1 WASH-FM’s Loo Katz and Lori Brooks will be on hand as grandstand announcers. Giant balloons include Kermit the Frog, Elmo, cherry blossoms, and Japanese lanterns.
If you can’t see the blossoms you might as well see the parade. 🙂
Sakura Matsuri Street Festival
The Sakura Matsuri – Japanese Street Festival is the largest one-day exhibition of Japanese culture in the United States. Japanese food and beer, sake, music and dance, arts and crafts, anime and manga, taiko drums, samurai swordsmen, ikebana and bonsai, karate, judo, sumo, aikido, sudoku. No matter what, if it’s Japanese, it’s at the Sakura Matsuri. Don’t forget to check out the Kirin Beer Garden.
It takes place on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, right after the Parade of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
Bethesda Central Farmer’s Market Reopens
Bethesda, MD…March 26, 2010…Bethesda Central Farm Market, located at the Elm Street parking lot between Wisconsin and Woodmont Avenues in the heart of Bethesda, will open on Sunday, April 11, from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The market, which will run through November 21, will kick off its second season with some special events:
- 10 a.m. – noon: Introducing the Kid’s Club, a series of fun, educational programs geared to 4-11 year olds. Twice a month, kids will enjoy programs focusing on fun, food, nutrition, farming and art.
- 11 a.m.: The chef from Lebanese Taverna will demonstrate Middle Eastern specialties.
- 11 a.m. – noon: Certified trainer Prisna Anderson of Fit 4 U will lead everyone in a short workout and answer fitness questions.
- All day: Banjer Dan will play and sing on his banjo.
Bethesda Central Farm Market features a large selection of produce, including fruits and vegetables, as well as locally raised grass fed beef, lamb, pork, goat and rabbit, artisan cheese and bread, poultry, eggs, seafood, boutique olive oil and vinegar, honey, sausage and salumi, pastry, coffee, handcrafted soap, flowers and plants, prepared foods and condiments. In addition, a knife sharpener will be on hand the first and third Sunday of each month. The market will also continue its tradition of showcasing local chefs and restaurants with ongoing demonstrations and farm dinners.
