by It is hard to believe that it is Friday already. It is supposed to be a beautiful weekend in DC. There are a ton of things to do, but I have focused on a couple exciting events. First of all, it is finally May. All of the April showers, or lack of them, will hopefully bring out the May flowers. Along with May comes Cinco de Mayo. Yep, that Mexican holiday celebrating the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Yep, not an independence day, however, it gives us the perfect reason to go and have a cocktail. Also tomorrow is Derby Day. I failed to make the Mint Julep cocktail on Wednesday. My Bad. However here is the recipe for all of you looking for a great cocktail for the weekend.
Mint Julep
- 1 ounce simple syrup
- 1/4 cup fresh mint
- 2 cups crushed ice
- 2 ounces bourbon (such as Woodford Reserve)
- Fresh mint sprig, for garnish
Add a handful of ice, mint and simple syrup to a glass. Muddle the mint mixture. Then add the bourbon and remaining ice. Serve in a julep cup or in a rocks glass.

Wags and Wine – Sunday May 2
On May 2, wine lovers and pet lovers will flock to downtown McLean’s Palladium Civic Green for Wags and Wine, a spring wine festival hosted by The Vineyard wine shop benefiting the Washington Humane Society (WHS). Wags and Wine is a follow up to The Vineyard’s successful wine festival in the fall, which benefitted the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.
