Recreating Pizza Hut Pizza

Recreating the Pizza Hut Pan Pizza

Nothing says Christmas Eve like pizza.  However, the pizza joints close early.  I am always craving pizza and today I was craving Pizza Hut.  I know it is not the best pizza around but it is still tasty.  The Pizza Hut Pan Pizza has a unique taste that makes you crave it even when you think you want something else.  So I decided to hunt around for recipes and see how they stand up.  The first one that I tried was spot on.  The pizza came out great and the crust had that great crispy crunch that you look for.

Recreating the Pizza Hut Pan Pizza

Making the Dough

Add the dough hook to your stand mixer.

Put yeast, sugar, salt, and dry milk in the bowl of your stand mixer. Add water and stir to mix well. Allow to sit for two minutes or until the mixture starts to bubble. Add oil and stir again.

Gently add the flour and stir until dough forms and flour is absorbed. Then knead the dough with the dough hook on speed 4, for 5 mintues.

Knead the dough

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide dough into three balls.

Divide the dough into thirds

Pour 3 oz of oil into three 9″ cake pans making sure it is spread evenly.  I know it sounds gross, but without the oil you do not get that perfectly crispy crust.

Oil the pans

Roll out each dough ball into an approximate 9 inch circle. Then place into the cake pans.

Place the dough into the pans

Cover each of the pans with a plate or flat object and then let the dough proof/rise for 1 to 2 hours.

Making the Sauce

While the dough is rising, mix the sauce ingredient together in a sauce pan.  Heat with medium heat until the sauce starts to boil, then lower the heat to low.  Let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes before using.

The Sauce

Assembly of the pizza

Preheat the oven to 475 degrees Fahrenheit.

After the dough has risen, spoon 1/3 cup of sauce on the dough.  Make sure to leave a 1 inch edge.

Sauce the pizza

Top with 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of cheese.  Make sure not to overload it.

Cheese it up

Then top with your other favorite ingredients.  I love pepperoni.

Nice and even pepperoni slices

Bake for 10-15 minute or until the crust is brown and cheese is melted.

The Perfect Replica

This pizza came out amazing!

It was an all around great pizza.  The extra oil in the pan fried the bottom of the pizza to perfection.

  1. Very nice, Rex. I just had to copy and paste this one to try quite soon. I agree about the unique taste of a Pizza Hut crust and the oil must be the key. Can't wait to try that trick.
