I frequently drive from the East Coast to the Midwest to see family. Normally I drive non-stop for 16 hours to get to my destination. However, this time around Dana thought we should stop halfway and rest. I was not too happy, but then I used it as a means to get a Primanti Brother’s Sandwich. We stayed downtown and then made our way to the strip district to get a bite to eat. We were surprised to see all of the fresh markets, Italian markets, cooking stores and spice markets. I could have spent days going to the various stores and coming up with recipes. Our overnight stop turned into a 20 hour non-stop eating extravaganza. I am a huge fan of Pittsburgh. Ok, let me clarify that. I am a huge fan of Pittsburgh in the summer. I have never ventured there in the winter, but based on what I saw, it would be one heck of a place to live in the winter.
Dana and I strolled through the strip district for a couple of hours. We ventured into one of the many Italian Markets and picked up some pasta and bread. We then left and went to Penzey’s Spice market to pick up some dried chili powders. (I know that there are Penzey’s everywhere, even in Richmond, but I never find myself near it. ) We then stopped to watch one of the many street vendors making some Asian noodles. It was a great little stop.
The main reason we stopped in Pittsburgh was to get a Primanti Brother’s sandwich. By the time we finally reached the restaurant, we had already eaten too much food. However, I did get a picture of me in front of it.
Next time I will have to check it out. I think that Pittsburgh will be one of many stops on my next trip to the Midwest. I definitely recommend stopping by Pittsburgh the next time you find yourself driving down I-70 or I-80.
See you next time Pittsburgh.
