Sugar Cookies

Cutout Sugar Cookies

My wife Dana is a great baker.  She also has a great eye for design.  So I have to put it out there, these cookies are all her.  My hands are not steady enough and my decorating ideas are not good enough to make these cookies. However, she was happy to share them with all of you.  So a big thank you to Dana! How awesome do these cookies look? By the way, these sugar cookies are perfection.  They are not too sweet, thus allowing you to coat them in super sweet royal icing.  Plus, they hold up great without overly rising.  Therefore, your cutouts look exactly as they should.

Sugar Cookies

Cutout Sugar Cookies

In a large bowl or the bowl of your stand mixer beat the butter on high until light and fluffy.  Roughly 30 seconds.

Mix the sugar and butter

Then add the salt, sugar and baking powder.  Mix until combined.

Add in the wet ingredients

Scrape the sides and then add the wet ingredients (milk, egg and vanilla).  Mix until combined.

Add the flour

Turn your mixer to low and slowly add the flour.  Mix until combined.

Turn the dough out onto some plastic wrap and then chill for at least an hour.

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Turn the chilled dough out onto a floured surface.  Roll the dough out to a 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut out your favorite shapes

Use your favorite cookie cutters and then place the cookies onto a parchment or silpat lined cookie sheet.

Bake for 7-9 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are slightly browned.

Bake and cool

Remove from the oven and cool on the cookie sheet for 1 minute.  Then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Decorate your favorite cookies

Once cool decorate with your favorite frosting/icing and your favorite cookie toppings (colored sugar/ candies).

More cookies

As you can see Dana is quite the cookie artist.  These cookies did not last long!

Santa Cookies

While the plate says that the cookies were for santa, I might have eaten them.  Therefore, we are gonna have to make more before the big man arives!
