Every Friday I pick and choose the best culinary events in the DC area. This weekend is going to be a fun one. Not really too much going on that is food related. I suggest that you stop by the metropolitan cooking and entertaining show. It is full of exhibitors and cooking demonstrations. I have been for the past 2 years. The samples available put a Sunday at Costco to shame.
Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show – Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 7-8)
The metropolitan cooking and entertaining show is a collection of exhibitors and live cooking demonstrations. This year features cooking demonstrations from Food Network stars Paula Deen, Giada De Laurentiis, Guy Fieri, Tyler Florence & the Neelys. While the celebrity chefs cost a bit more to see, the general admission tickets give you access to local chef cooking demonstrations and all of the exhibitors. General admission tickets are only $20. There is also beer and wine tasting for an extra $18.50. The beer and wine pairing is totally worth it. I will be there on Saturday. I will be hanging out with the guys from Pork Barrel BBQ. Stop by there booth, say Hi and try there award winning BBQ sauce.
Exhibitors you need to See….
- Texas Sassy – Their sweet and spicy pickles are awesome.
- Curry Simple – The green curry is tasty, quick and simple to make.
- Pork Barrel BBQ – The sauce is awesome!!
- The Hot Squeeze – You have to stop by and try the Sweet Heat Chipotle Sauce.

This weekend is a little slow.

Giada blew it today. Totally unprepared, walked on stage with her purse, half-insulted some of the assistants/audience members…she even asked if someone could get her a knife, when there was a complete set of knives sitting right in front of her.
On another note, you are completely right – the Pork Barrel BBQ sauce was incredible.
I dropped the ball when I wrote the post. I should have noted that she was unprepared last year. She didn't even do any cooking. She had the audience do the cooking as she sat there drinking what I think was water. The food samples were pretty good this year. I think the best bet is to go with general admission tickets and taste the samples. However, I did hear that the lunches were pretty cool. I guess for around $100 you can have lunch with your favorite food star and 100 other random people. A little more intimate and more of a chance to get to know them.
