Dana and I love making and decorating cookies! Â Needless to say, Dana is way better at decorating the cookies than I am. Â This does not prevent me from trying. Â Our son has been begging us to make some fancy cookies. Â So we have been testing different recipes. Â We tried royal icing. Â It was great tasting and easy to work with. Â However, it dried dull and not shiny. Â Our next step was to try making our own recipe. Â We dabbled with different ratios and finally figured out exactly what we wanted. Â We used corn syrup for the perfect shine. Â We then added vanilla for flavor. Â Finally after a few tries we nailed down the perfect amount of water to make it sturdy enough to outline, yet loose enough to flow and fill. Â This recipe gives you shiny and glossy cookies.
Shiny Cookie Icing
In a large bowl mix together the confectioners’ sugar, water, vanilla and corn syrup with a whisk. Â Continue to mix until smooth.
Portion out the icing and color if desired.
This icing is super simple and easy to make. Plus, it dries to the perfect shine.
If you find that the icing is a little too thick, you can add a teaspoon of water to thicken it up. Â If you find that it is a little too thin for what you are looking for, let it sit for a couple of minutes and then stir.

Do you sift your sugar?
I do sift the sugar.
Do the cookies stay shiny when dry? I am making cookies for my son’s wedding and will need to make and then freeze them for transport to the wedding and want to keep as much shine as possible on the cookies.
Yes they are shiny when dried.
I use almond flavoring. if you are making white wedding cookies you would need a clear vanilla or you will tint the white. easy to make also sift the sugar so you do not get little uneven balls
