How to Make Garlic Herb Compound Butter for the Perfect Steak (5 Minutes)

I love steak. Like, really love steak. And you know what makes a great steak even better? A good garlic herb compound butter. I’ve been experimenting with different combinations over the years, testing this herb and that spice. Finally, I think I’ve nailed it. The key to making garlic herb compound butter is balancing the salt, the acid, and just the right amount of herb goodness. The result? A compound butter that enhances your steak without overpowering it. And the best part? You can make it in about 5 minutes.

Garlic Herb Compound Butter

 

In a medium bowl add one stick of room temperature unsalted butter.

Butter and seasoning

Add salt, pepper, garlic and lemon juice to the bowl and mix.

Chop the herbs

Finely chop the herbs and add them to the bowl and mix.

Mix together

Spoon the compound butter onto a piece of plastic wrap or parchment.  Twist into a roll and refrigerate until hard.  Roughly 2 hours.

Roll into a log

Slice the compound butter into discs and serve over a perfectly cooked steak.

Slice into disks and serve

Ingredients
  

  • 4 oz Unsalted Butter 1 Stick
  • ¾ tsp Kosher Salt
  • ¼ tsp Pepper
  • 1 clove Garlic minced
  • 1 ½ tsp Lemon Juice
  • 2 tsp Parsley
  • 1 tsp Rosemary
  • 1 tsp Thyme

Method
 

  1. Place 1 stick of unsalted butter into a medium bowl
  2. Add salt, pepper, garlic and lemon juice to the bowl and mix.
  3. Finely chop the herbs and add them to the mixture.
  4. Spoon the butter onto a piece of parchment or plastic wrap.
  5. Twist into a roll and refrigerate till hard. Roughly 2 hours.
  6. Slice into discs and serve over a perfectly cooked steak.
